CARBON CROSSBOW ARROW / BOLT SELECTION

Only use a finished arrow / bolt(s) that are recommended by your crossbow manufacturer for correct weight, length, diameter, nock type, and fletching type.  NEVER SHOOT ARROW / BOLT THAT IS NOT RECOMMENDED BY YOUR CROSSBOW MANUFACTURER.

Always use field point or broadhead installed on arrow / bolt. NEVER SHOOT CROSSBOW ARROW / BOLT WITHOUT FIELD POINT OR BROADHEAD.

HOW DOES ARROW / BOLT BECOME DAMAGED:

Damage can occur from impacts with hard objects, other arrows / bolts or after being shot into a game animal.  A damaged arrow / bolt can break upon shot resulting in injury to you, bystanders and damage crossbow.  

 

WHEN TO INSPECT:

PRIOR TO EVERY SHOT(including first shot of a new arrow / bolt), always carefully inspect each arrow / bolt for any damage.  A damaged arrow / bolt can break upon shot resulting in injury to you, bystanders and damage crossbow.  

 

HOW TO INSPECT:

ALWAYS WEAR OSHA APPROVED EYE PROTECTION DURING INSPECTION.  

 
1.     VISUAL AND FEEL INSPECTION

-       Slowly run your fingers along entire length of arrow shaft and nock, feeling and looking for cracks, nicks,cuts, fractures, splits, dents,bends, or other marks that could indicate damage.  

-       If damaged is visible or you suspect damage, DISCARD THE ARROW / BOLT.  WARNING! NEVER A DAMAGED SHOOT ARROW / BOLT.   

2.     FLEX AND INSPECT INSPECTION

-       Grab arrow above point and below nock, then flex arrow (bending away from you and others) with 0.5 to 1 inch deflection and listen and feel for cracking.  Repeat 5 or 6 times rotating arrow between each flex.  

-       If you see, feel or hear cracking, arrow has been damaged.  DISCARD THE ARROW / BOLT.  WARNING! NEVER A DAMAGED SHOOT ARROW / BOLT.  

3.     TWIST INSPECTION

-       While holding both ends of arrow / bolt, twist shaft in both directions.  

-       If arrow twists easily, arrow / bolt has been damaged.  DISCARD THE ARROW / BOLT.  WARNING! NEVER A DAMAGED SHOOT ARROW / BOLT.   

4.     COMPONENT INSPECTION

-       Always check all arrow components prior to each shot. Tighten loose components. Loose components can cause unbalanced flight and may partial dry fire crossbow.  NEVER SHOOT ARROW / BOLT WITH LOOSE COMPONENTS.  



CUTTING CARBON ARROWS / BOLTS 

ALWAYS WEAR OSHA APPROVED DUST MASK AND EYE PROTECTION WHEN CUTTING SHAFTS.

Only cut carbon arrows / bolts with a high-speed arrow cut off saw.  Use of any other type of saw may cause damage to the arrow / bolt.
